In December of 1947, Dior launched his first perfume, Miss Dior. René was asked to to produce a series of illustrations, and was given full freedom to do whatever he wanted, as they 'spoke the same language'. Their collaboration continued until Dior's death in 1957, and Gruau kept producing images for the house of Dior until the 1980s.
